Our Commitment to Professional Standards

At Parkgrove Funeral Directors, caring for families is about more than arranging a funeral. It is about trust, dignity, transparency and the quiet reassurance that every detail is being handled properly.

As part of our continued commitment to the highest standards of funeral care, we have introduced a dedicated Governance & Standards page to our website. The page explains how our work is guided by the Scottish Funeral Director Code of Practice and by the principles set out in the National Association of Funeral Directors Code.

The Scottish Funeral Director Code of Practice came into force on 1 March 2025 and applies to all funeral directors carrying out funeral director functions in Scotland. It sets out minimum standards for areas including care of the deceased, professional practice, transparency and record keeping.

For families, these standards matter deeply. When someone dies, there is often a great deal to think about in a very short space of time. Families should be able to place their trust in a funeral director with confidence, knowing that the person who has died is being cared for respectfully and that the arrangements are being managed with clarity and professionalism.

At Parkgrove, governance is not treated as a box-ticking exercise. It forms part of our everyday work, from the first call to the final farewell. This includes careful identification procedures, transparent pricing, written estimates, accurate records, respectful care of the deceased and clear communication with families throughout the arrangement process.

Our new Governance & Standards page also highlights the practical benefits for families, including greater peace of mind, clearer choices, transparent costs and consistent standards of care. Whether a family is arranging a direct cremation, a simple service or a fully bespoke funeral, they should receive the same level of dignity, attention and respect.

The National Association of Funeral Directors has also launched a refreshed UK Funeral Director Code for members, following the introduction of the statutory Scottish code. The NAFD describes the code as a unified standard for funeral directors, supporting professionalism, care and public confidence in the funeral profession.

Chris Simpson, Funeral Director at Parkgrove, said:

“Families place an enormous amount of trust in us at one of the most difficult times in their lives. That trust has to be earned through the way we care for people, the way we communicate, and the standards we hold ourselves to every day. Our Governance & Standards page is about being open with families and showing the care, professionalism and accountability behind what we do.”

Parkgrove Funeral Directors and Parkgrove Crematorium work together as one team from our peaceful setting in Friockheim. Our aim is to provide calm, personal and professional care for families across Angus and the surrounding areas.

The new Governance & Standards page can now be viewed on the Parkgrove Funeral Directors website.
