Governance & standards

Our commitment to care, transparency and professional standards.

At Parkgrove Funeral Directors, governance is not treated as a formality. It is part of how we care for families, how we look after those entrusted to us, and how we make sure every funeral is arranged with dignity, clarity and respect.

Standards families can feel, not just read about.

When someone dies, families should be able to place their trust in a funeral director with confidence. That trust must be earned through clear communication, respectful care of the deceased, transparent pricing, accurate records and professional conduct at every stage.

Our work is guided by the Scottish Funeral Director Code of Practice, which sets out the standards expected of funeral directors operating in Scotland. We also work in line with the principles set out by the National Association of Funeral Directors Code, reflecting our wider commitment to professionalism, accountability and care.

For families, this means reassurance. It means knowing that arrangements are being handled carefully, decisions are being explained clearly, and the person who has died is being treated with dignity from the moment they come into our care.

Our principles

The foundations of responsible funeral care.

Our commitment to governance is built around the areas that matter most to families: dignity, clarity, safety, accountability and trust.

01

Dignified care of the deceased

Every person in our care is treated with respect, sensitivity and professionalism. We follow careful procedures around identification, handling, preparation and presentation.

02

Clear and honest information

Families should never feel unsure about what is being arranged or what something costs. We provide clear explanations, written estimates and accessible price information.

03

Respect for family wishes

We listen carefully to each family and aim to honour personal, cultural, religious and individual wishes wherever reasonably possible.

04

Professional conduct

Families can expect calm, respectful and appropriate behaviour from every member of our team, whether in our funeral home, at the crematorium, or within the wider community.

05

Accurate records and accountability

Good funeral care depends on careful administration. We keep appropriate records, follow documented procedures and take responsibility for the details entrusted to us.

06

Continuous improvement

We review our working practices, listen to feedback and continue to develop our facilities, procedures and training so families receive the standard of care they deserve.

Before arrangements are confirmed

We explain the options available, answer questions clearly, provide price information and prepare written estimates so families can make informed decisions without pressure.

When someone comes into our care

We follow careful procedures for bringing the deceased into our care, confirming identity, recording personal effects and ensuring they are looked after respectfully.

During the arrangement process

We record instructions carefully, confirm important details and guide families through the practical decisions involved in arranging a funeral.

At the funeral service

Our team works to ensure the day is calm, organised and respectful, with attention given to timings, family wishes, music, orders of service, floral tributes and the wider funeral arrangements.

After the funeral

We continue to support families with the return or scattering of ashes, memorial options, donations, paperwork and any further questions they may have.

For families

The benefits of choosing a funeral director committed to high standards.

Codes of practice are important because they turn expectations into clear responsibilities. For families, that creates confidence at a time when reassurance matters most.

Greater peace of mind

Families can feel reassured that the person who has died is being cared for respectfully and that the funeral arrangements are being managed by a professional team.

Clearer choices

We explain available options in plain language, helping families choose the funeral that feels right without confusion or unnecessary pressure.

Transparent costs

We provide accessible price information and written estimates, so families understand the cost of the funeral before decisions are finalised.

Respectful, consistent care

Every family should receive the same standard of care, attention and dignity, whether arranging a direct cremation, a simple service or a fully bespoke funeral.

Codes of practice

The standards that guide our profession.

We believe families should know the standards their funeral director is working to. These codes help promote dignity, transparency and responsible funeral care.
